A group of residents concerned about resource use and carbon emissions in our city. We're supported by members and groups that want to establish guidelines for our city to implement, following California state law. These guidelines are developed and adopted by the community, resulting in a Climate Action Plan.

Our Progress

We're anticipating paperwork from SCAG (Southern California Association of Governments) for the city to use as a grant application.  SCAG says the window for application should open some time in late September so we're checking in with them from time to time to stay on top of that.  The reason we're so eager to take advantage of that is that the grant money (up to $250,000) can cover ALL of the expenses related to developing a climate action plan, making the process absolutely free for our city of San Marino.

Meantime we're working on a 9/25 presentation for the Barth Community Room at Crowell to explain to interested members that hundreds of cities across the nation already have CAPs, what a CAP typically consists of, what the process for gathering community input is, etc.  We'll make the Powerpoint available here following the presentation at the library.

9/25 presentation was well attended.  A range of perspectives were represented, including full-throated support as well as cautions about budgetary and government over-reach.  All are being incorporated into our thought process going forward.

Unfortunately, SCAG just announced that they are not offering the CAP grant that we'd hoped to apply for this year.  There is a LOT of other state and county money available though...and we are currently looking into which sources might best fit our needs.
